The scientific interests cover a wide range of problems in modern turbine machine building. He was the first in domestic practice who developed the methods of integrated optimal design of the last turbine stage with account of requirements to the heat-and-gas dynamics, static and dynamic strength, design, and the technology and standards of turbine operation.

Based on theoretical, experimental and full-scale investigations into electrophysical phenomena occurring in thermophysical processes in steam turbines, which were carried out for the first time in the world, a new scientific school ; was created in this field, namely, thermoelectric physics. These investigations made it possible to find principally new practical solutions focused to increasing the efficiency and reliability of turbines, as well as to suggest non-conventional methods of their diagnostics. These works of Tarelin A.A. and his school have been widely recognized by foreign scientists and specialists in the USA, Great Britain, Russia and other countries.

Under his direction, an advanced technology of machining complex-shape curvilinear surfaces of the turbine blade type has been developed. This technology is superior to conventional technologies in respect to productivity by several fold and ensures high-quality machining.

He is the author of 100+scientific works, 2 monographs, 6 patents and 8 Inventor’s Certificates.
