Boris S. SOROKA

Professor

Chief Researcher and Head of Laboratory of Heat and Mass Transfer in Fuel Furnaces

Gas Institute NASU

*

Have graduated with honours diploma from Kiev Polytechnical Institute, Department of Chemical Engineering (1962) and at the same time joined the Gas institute, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.  He maintained a candidate thesis (Ph.D.) in 1968 (Institute of Engineering Physics, Ukrainian Academy of Sciences) and doctor thesis (Doctor Sc., Eng.) in 1987 (Moscow Steel and Alloys Institute).

Main activity: combustion processes mathematical modeling and industrial applications, processes of environmental pollution and air protection, engineering and chemical thermodynamics, the transport processes in gaseous medium including fluid dynamics, mass and heat transfer, radiative heat transfer in non-isothermal and non-gray space. He has developed the first in Europe designs of flat-flame burners grounded on Coanda effect and many designs of industrial process furnaces of indirect radiative heating equipped with flat-flame burners, along with advancement of original designs of the burners, recuperators, heat exchangers, submerged combustors.

Has elaborated some fundamentals of new scientific area – combined power and environmental optimization of the fuel furnaces. Last years he was involved and succeed in the problem of local heating of the industrial premises and in development of global (“reduced”) combustion mechanism and of global mechanism of NOx formation by natural gas combustion.

Have published about 300 printed works including 18 books and preprints, is author of about 40 inventions being implemented in the industry of FSU countries, Algeria, Bulgaria, Hungary and has 11 foreign patents (G. Britain, France, Italy, Japan etc.) He presented the papers at dozens of symposiums and seminars both within FSU and western countries (G.Britain, USA, Hungary, Poland, France, Portugal etc.)
